Datamoshing your datamosh

In order of appearance:

Chairlift - Evident Utensil

Kanye West - Welcome to Heartbreak ft. Kid Cudi

Sprutbass - Ulykke

Yung Jake - Datamosh

I thought this trend had died down, but with Yung Jake's aptly titled 'Datamosh' video hitting youtube the other week, it appears not. First made commonly known by filmmakers with Chairlift's video and then known in the mainstream with Kanye West's video. I have to give credit to David O'Rielly however, he was one of the first experimenters and likely an influence for the creators of the Chairlift video. Check out his work!

& if you want to give it a go, check out this series on youtube below. Getting the workflow down isn't difficult, finding the right clips that work well together with the technique is!

Anyone else have some wicked datamosh videos to share? Especially would like to see some different/unique uses of the technique.

Streaming Music!

streaming music, radio, indieshuffle, mixcloud, soundcloud, percussionlab, nutriot

My regulars that I visit for listening to music. Nutriot is new bass music focused, percussionlab is everything underground electronic. Soundcloud and mixcloud are general platforms and indieshuffle is like pandora but better (I can listen in Canada!) and with good music suggestions/features.

Got any others you know that you can share?

Special Feature: Stuff your parent's like

Hopefully a regular special feature here: Stuff your parents like!

I got my mother onto listening to CBC radio - (we're canucks eh) one day last year when she was surfing through my saved stations in the car. Now she only listens to CBC radio. I'm glad there's no more adult contemporary crap to endure, but sometimes she's excessive: spending entire weekend afternoons with opera blasting in the living room. Someone help?

James Blake - The Wilhelm Scream

Actress - Harrier ATTK (unofficial)

Emika - Double Edge

obscurity, blurring, glass, faded, washed out, out of focus, light leaks, lens flare, glare, reflection, refraction, ambigious, blind, cloak, cloud, dim, fog, haze, mist, muddy, murk, obfuscate, screen, shroud, screen, viel, concealed

The contemporary take on abstraction: obfuscation. Visually pleasing, like a pleasant haze.
James Blake's video brings it into the mainstream and plays the slow reveal and synced up hits. Actress's unofficial video follows the trend and Emika's mixes in the bad VHS/TV roll 90's aesthetic. Interesting note that Emika's video was filmed over webcam remotely.

Also another amazing song and video that uses some of the light leaks/lens flare/glare-type noise occasionally:
